WORDS ! more words !

Here's the sitruation : I need words. Lots of them. All kinds, of every colour and measure. All these nebulous and fleeting ideas flotting in my head need to be pinned them. So keep those words coming !

Here's the mission : list your favourite words, those that turned the light on, those that brought on your epiphanies, those that made the darkness light, those that enlightened you and those that confused you to no end.

    Here's a great word: MATUTINAL.
I discovered it after I played it in a recent Scrabble tourney.
(Since I study lists of tens of thousands of words, I do
not always have time to learn all the definitions to them.)
It means "of, relating to, or occurring in the morning,"
as opposed to CREPUSCULAR, "active in twilight."

      hmmm....that`s what I`m talking about !

recent favourites of mine (practical words)

reify : make (something abstract) more concrete or real.

convolution : 1 a coil or twist. 2 the state of being or process of becoming coiled or twisted. 3 a complex argument, statement, etc.

both definitions are from the on-line OED, but I find they fall short of giving the words the specific nuance.

Let`s keep the ball rolling ! More words

Interesting thing about the past tense of REIFY:
REIFIED anagrams to DEIFIER, which is also the
word backwards. I suppose one could even
        consider them cognates.

    Hello everyone!

One of my recent favorites is VICISSITUDES.

We are all victims of the vicissitudes of fate.

Oh, and the adjectival form VICISSITUDINOUS, "marked
      or filled with vicissitudes."

      Now I'm excited.

Which brings to mind another one of my favorites, which was also, it seems, a favorite of Jorge Luis Borges (or at least his translator):

        VERTIGINOUS

        From Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius:
"All men, in the vertiginous moment of coitus, are the same man."

Personally, I think "vertiginous" should always be used in connection with "coitus."

Yes. Coitus should always be vertiginous,
          not caliginous or fuliginous.

          Speaking of coitus,
          back when I was a mind-conditioned minister,
I once gave a short sermon based on a chapter
in Genesis about Onan and used the expression
"coitus interruptus." Didn't get too much of a
          reaction from the audience unfortunately.
(Don't want to pull out too far from the discussion
at hand, though. Maybe I can redeem myself by
mentioning a couple of interesting, quite specific
          terms, ONANISM and ONANIST.)
